Ireland down Essex

Essex lost to Ireland by six wickets
in their one-day friendly match at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

Ireland reached their target with eight balls to spare but the County can take some positives from their work-out against last year’s World Cup surprise package.

Captain Mark Pettini top-scored for Essex with 84 while Tim Phillips had a fine all-round match with 24 not out and three wickets.

Preparations ahead of the game were delayed - due to prayers on the holy day of the Islamic week in the United Arab Emirates – that resulted in 10 overs being lost to the play.

Essex continue their Pro-ARCH series fixtures on Sunday against Lancashire at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium (2pm start, 50-overs-per-side).
